Installing and Launching Pine Optimizer

Transcript

Hello traders,

Tim here, and I’d like to welcome you back to this video tutorial series on trading strategy optimization, using Pine Optimizer.

In the previous session, we looked at the relationship between TradingView and Pine Optimizer, to better understand how these two essential tools interact.

In this session, we’ll be taking the first concrete step toward strategy optimization, by setting up your Pine Optimizer working environment.

To get started, we need to install the Pine Optimizer browser extension, which you can download, free of charge, from the Chrome Web Store.

As a reminder, Pine Optimizer works with any Chromium-based browser, which includes Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, as well as a growing list of less well-known browsers.

To install the browser extension, you’ll need to either visit the Web Store and search for Pine Optimizer, or use the link in the welcome email that we sent you when you activated your Pine Optimizer account.

Either way, you’ll end up here, which is the download page for the Pine Optimizer extension.

The fact that the extension is listed here, means that it has been approved by Google’s review team and is therefore safe to install.

To install the extension in your browser, simply click the Add button and confirm that you’re happy for the installation to proceed.

Once it’s finished, which only takes a couple of seconds, you can close this page.

You won’t see any new buttons or icons in your browser toolbar, as the Chrome extension works silently in the background, and all of your interaction will be with TradingView and the Pine Optimizer app.

So, let’s continue with those two pages.

We’ll start by opening a new browser tab and using it to view the TradingView chart page. You need to be logged into your TradingView account, but there’s no need to set up any particular chart configuration.

Once, that’s done, you can open another new browser tab and use it to access the Pine Optimizer app. The easiest way to do that is to navigate to [pineoptizer.com](http://pineoptizer.com) and click the Log in button.

Then, use your account credentials to sign in, and you’ll see this view, which is the empty strategies workspace that all new Pine Optimizer users start with.

Before we move on to our first strategy optimization, we need to perform one final task, to verify that that Pine Optimizer and TradingView are able to communicate correctly.

On the header navbar, you’ll see this button, which launches a connectivity test between the two browser tabs.

Click that button, to start the test, and you should see a set of green thumbs-up icons, which confirms that all the stages of the test passed correctly. Click the OK button to dismiss the dialog.

Keep in mind that the TradingView chart page needs to be open in one of your browser tabs, whenever you’re using Pine Optimizer for strategy optimization, even though you’re not directly interacting with the TradingView chart.

If I close the TradingView tab and re-run the connectivity test, you’ll see that some of the stages will fail, because the TradingView chart is no longer accessible.

You only need to run this test once, when you first install the browser extension, but it can also be useful for diagnosing communication problems between the two tabs.

And, if you contact us for help with a TradingView automation issue, we’ll probably ask you to run this test, to help us to diagnose where the problem lies.

And that’s it, you’re ready to start with your first strategy optimization, which we’ll do in the next session. Until then, thanks for watching.
